Thompson Automotive Labs breakthrough diagnostic software is designed to lessen the automotive diagnostic technicians workload, increase engine misfire diagnostic accuracy and add to workshop profitability.

 

While an ignition scope has the tag 'a window into the combustion chamber', it has not always allowed technicians to correctly and efficiently identify engine combustion misfires.

 

Ignition scope waveform interpretation experience is built up of a long period of time and often 'partial misfires' associated with combustion inefficiencies may be missed by both the experienced and new scope user.

 

A vehicles OBD II computer can be used in an attempt to locate an individual cylinder misfire if it is equipped with misfire detection software. However, sometimes this method cannot identify a specific cylinder, incorrectly shows the wrong cylinder or reports no misfire even though the engine has an obvious misfire!

 

A.C.E. Misfire Detective software eliminates this by 'opening a back door' to the petrol engine cylinders combustion chambers. The software identifies all misfires (hard and partial) on all petrol combustion engines, suggests probable source of misfire, has customer report printing options and so much more!

 
 

 

 

A.C.E. Misfire Detective does not require complicated hardware or have complicated software setup procedures or operation.

 

For the hardware, just simply use an A/D convertor (with Windows OS compatibility), an inductive sync pickup probe and a quality pressure sensor if testing is done using the vehicle exhaust tailpipe gas stream.

 

A.C.E. software can analyse the exhaust stream pressure pulses via the signal from the pressure sensor which is passed through to the A/D convertor or sense the high frequency low voltage dips of an oxygen sensor signal output using a trigger sync reference either from an ignition HT lead or injector.

 

The A/D convertor (DSO) processed signals are then analysed by A.C.E. Misfire Detective software and results can be viewed on any desktop PC or laptop computer running Windows OS.

  1. Start the A.C.E. Misfire software on your computer
  2. Select the vehicle manufacturer and engine type
  3. Connect a lead from your *PICO automotive lab scope to an ignition reference for number 1 cylinder to the oxygen sensor of the engine bank you want to test (or the *FirstLook Pulse Sensor in the exhaust).
  4. Click 'Start'

The A.C.E. misfire Detective software uses the Pico lab scope to sample and display the engine combustion data in real-time.

 

A.C.E. Misfire displays clearly the type of engine under test, engine cylinders in firing order, correctly operating cylinders and cylinders misfiring.

 

Once a misfire is detected, the A.C.E. Misfire Detective program alerts the user to which cylinder or cylinders are being detected and allows the user to follow a simple data input procedure to advise the most likely cause of the misfire i.e. air-fuel mixture, ignition system or engine cylinder compression.
